Gift Matching Program Set for GLBBS Capital Campaign

July 21, 2022

Cedarville, MI – Great Lakes Boat Building School’s leadership, in conjunction with a family from the Les Cheneaux Islands (LCI), have developed the “Fill in the Planks” matching fund for donors to the school making a gift in their name or to honor others.  Participant donations of at least $1,000 will have their gift matched (for a limited time) and the opportunity to be recognized on planks in the future boardwalk and docking facility on the school’s campus.

The “Come Aboard, Launch Careers” capital campaign to raise funding for Great Lakes Boat Building School’s project expansion has been underway since December 1, 2021 and has recently reached 75% of the $1.1 million goal.  The establishment of the matching fund could provide the momentum necessary to help complete the campaign.

“We are very pleased with the progress we have made to announce we are three-quarters of the way to our goal after seven months in this campaign,” said Nikki Storey, President. “So many friends of the school, marine industry leaders and new donors have made generous commitments to the campaign, we are honored that they share our vision.  Now to have a well-established LCI family step up to inspire others by offering to match their gifts is simply amazing.”

An attractive boardwalk and docking facility will provide students with direct access to the water and serve as an area for outdoor learning and testing as well as a gathering place for students, community members, supporters and special guests.  Fundamental skills relative to the GLBBS Comprehensive Career Boating Building and Marine Service Technology programs will be learned and tested in this area.

“This program is a great way for businesses and individuals to get involved in the campaign and leverage their giving while being recognized in the waterfront facility,” said Tom Coates, Director of Development. “Every gift will even make more of a difference due to the matching opportunity and provide the ability to make an enduring legacy for yourself, friends and loved ones too.”

GLBBS continues to produce qualified students from their Comprehensive Career Boat Building Program and the Marine Service Technology Program (MST), in partnership with Mercury Marine University, with a consistent 100% placement rate.  The School is continuing to address the shortage of skilled trades and craftspeople in the marine industry following graduation.
